ADMISSIONS The New Actors Workshop, among New York's finest acting schools, operates on a rolling admission basis. Decisions are communicated to you approximately ten days after your audition. A maximum of 30 students are admitted to the first-year class. Applications are accepted throughout the year. (When a class is filled, we will accept applications for a waiting list.) Applicants for the master’s degree program must also apply and be accepted by Antioch University McGregor. Minimum requirement is a high school diploma. The average age of accepted students is 25. Students have come from the 50 states, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Taiwan. To be considered for admission, a candidate must submit 1) a completed application 2) a recent photo and 3) a $40 non-refundable application fee. When the application and fee are received, we will contact you to schedule an audition. AUDITION Admission is by audition and interview in New York, or with our representatives in Atlanta, Chattanooga, Chicago, Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Francisco. Applicants should prepare two contrasting monologues within a comfortable age range chosen from contemporary American drama for a total time of no more than six minutes. Notification of the results will be mailed. AUDITING We are not able to accommodate prospective students as auditors in any of the classes. However, it is possible to talk to members of the current student body and graduates about their experience. Please request a list following your audition. SECOND YEAR By invitation only. In contrast to some other acting schools, at least 95% of students are invited back. Our careful selection process makes this possible. OPTIONAL MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAM See Master of Arts Degree on the classes page or click for information. VIDEO AUDITION GUIDELINES Applicants who cannot appear in New York, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Chicago, Los Angeles, Sacramento or San Francisco may submit a video-recorded audition - use NTSC format videotapes or DVDs. Keep your whole body in the frame. No close-ups or headand- shoulders shots. Stand up for at least 90% of your presentation. The more movement, the better. Talk directly to the camera. In addition to the two contrasting monologues (see above), tape about three minutes of yourself answering the question: “Why are you applying to New Actors Workshop?” You may sit or stand for this and you may shoot from the waist up. Talk directly to the camera. Video-tapes/DVDs will not be returned. THIS PROGRAM IS AUTHORIZED UNDER FEDERAL LAW TO ENROLL FOREIGN OR NON-IMMIGRANT STUDENTS. |
