THE THREE WEEK SUMMER INTENSIVE
NYC ACTING CLASSES: An intensive combined approach.
The brief nature of the summer program and the logistics of arranging rehearsal times for our NYC acting classes preclude rehearsed scene work. A major part of the technique class is devoted to a unique series of exercises utilizing monologues of the students’ choosing. These exercises, developed over the past 25 years by Mr. Morrison, are simple, practical and enjoyable, and aim at developing an increasing awareness of self and an expanding repertory of choices in the expressive channels of voice, body and face. The work on improvisation is based on the contributions of Viola Spolin. It is a playful, joyful and energizing approach to acting which serves as a refreshing counterpoint to the more analytical and methodical work of the technique class. The classes in movement and voice round out the curriculum. PLEASE NOTE: Mr. Morrison personally supervises and teaches in the summer program. Mr. Nichols is not available.
Students
attend classes Monday - Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a total
of 30 class hours per week. A small amount of additional time is
required for preparation and practice. The curriculum includes the
following classes: A maximum of 30 students are accepted and all classes are taught in smaller sections in comfortably air-conditioned studios.
Admission to the summer sessions is based on a letter of recommendation from a teacher, director, and/or producer who is familiar with your work, or, for those nearby, a personal interview. The session is open to those graduating from high school, college students, and those long out of college. Minimum age is 17. Teachers of acting are welcome and have found the work to be unique and readily applicable to their own teaching. Applicants should submit the attached application, with a current photo/snapshot and a check for $20. Early application to our NYC acting classes is advisable since these courses often fill up quickly. Those considering applying for the two-year program have found that the summer sessions offer a representative cross section of the full-time curriculum.
Tuition is $1675 for the three-week summer programs. $100 of that amount is due upon acceptance as a non-refundable deposit. There is a $20 application fee. Full payment for the first session is due no later than Monday, June 29. Full payment for the second session is due no later than Monday, July 27. To obtain a refund, a student must submit a Withdrawal Form. Refunds are made based on the date of receipt of the form.
Safe, affordable housing for a limited number of students is available for the first session only. The cost is approximately $1425 for the three weeks. Please conatct the Workshop at 212-947-1310 for more information. “I had no idea how radically different this program is from other acting schools.” “For the first time in my life, I felt like someone understood me.” “The Workshop has changed my life.” “The instructors and program are brilliant, articulate, simple, ingenious.” “… best thing I’ve done for myself in the 7 years “I learned as much about teaching as I did about acting.”
