OPTIONAL MASTER OF ARTS DEGREE

The only independent two-year program in NYC with an MA option..

The New Actors Workshop and Antioch University have created an affiliation allowing students to earn a master’s degree while attending The Workshop. Prospective students must apply to Antioch University and The Workshop. Students work with an Antioch University advisor to create an individualized curriculum in acting. The fifty-credit degree includes one year-long course in the first year, two summer courses and a ten-credit thesis. The thesis is often an original performance piece written by the student and performed at The Workshop, but other location options are available.

Adjunct faculty has included Richard Caliban, Eileen Connolly, Jane House, Ph.D., Mimi Lieber, Charles Marowitz,
Judith Malina, Judy Lee Oliva, Marilyn Sokol, Lisa Sokolov and Ernest Thompson.

CURRICULUM:

The two-year master’s degree has the flexibility to meet the professional goals of acting students. In consultation with their mentor, Kathy Hendrickson, and the Antioch faculty advisor, Dr. Jon Saari, students individualize their curriculum using a holistic approach to acting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or its equivalent from an institution outside the U.S., and must submit applications and be accepted by both Antioch and The Workshop.

ON CAMPUS REQUIREMENT:

Students attend two residencies in Yellow Springs. The first residency is at the start of the first quarter and covers individualized curriculum design. The second residency focuses on the performance thesis and occurs in June of the second year, after all course work is completed. All other coursework may be completed in the student’s home community or at learning sites chosen by the student.

FEES:

Tuition and fees payable to Antioch University are separate from the tuition paid to The New Actors Workshop. Financial aid, in the form of Federal student loans, is available to students enrolled in the master’s program.
