CERTIFICATE:
A Certificate of Completion is awarded to students successfully
completing the two-year program. Commencement speakers have
included Christine Baranski, Ellen Barkin, Joel Blum, Marissa Chibas, Sinead
Cusack, Gene Hackman, Norris Houghton, David Hyde-Pierce, Michael Moriarty, Elaine
May, Mary Louise Parker, Natasha Richardson, Wallace Shawn,
Stanley Tucci, Arnold Weinstein, Mary Louise Wilson, and George
C. Wolfe. |
FINANCIAL AID:
Federal loans are available to students in the Master of Arts program.
NOW, affordable loans are also
available to students who elect the certificate option. These career
training loans are administered by the SLM Corporation, a Sallie
Mae company. You can borrow a minimum of $2,000 up to the total
cost of your education including living expenses. If you have no
credit, or a poor credit history, you may still qualify by applying
with a credit-worthy co-borrower. You can take up to 15 years to
repay your loans.
We urge you to consider this option. In the past,
students who work during the school year have found themselves over-extended
and unable to keep up rehearsals outside class. To be able to devote
all your energies to your training is a valuable investment in your
future. |
EVALUATIONS:
Informal evaluation and feedback about progress is offered by faculty
on a week-to-week basis. Students are evaluated more formally by
the faculty as a whole at the end of each term.
TIME REQUIREMENTS:
Students must be available for classes during the day, Monday-Friday
from 9:00 to 5:00. Students are in class 22 to 26 hours per week.
Considerable additional time is required for preparation. Participation
in Friday night improv performances is optional. Some students are
able to secure work on weekends or an occasional evening, but we
strongly suggest that you borrow (see Financial Aid section above)
rather than attempt to work. As the schedule of classes may change
during the year, outside work may not be scheduled during class
hours M-F, 9:00-5:00. (It is not possible for students to earn enough
during the year for both tuition and living expenses.) |
DISCIPLINE:
Students are to be familiar with the rules governing student conduct
and to follow them. Should a student's actions lead to dismissal,
refunds will be made according to the schedule above. Students are
required to attend all classes. Unexcused absences may be grounds
for dismissal. Medical absences must be documented. Lack of application
or progress may be cause for dismissal after careful consideration
by the faculty and a formal warning. During the school year, students
are not allowed to participate in outside productions.

LIBRARY:
Students have access to a school library of 4,000 plays, videotapes,
and theatre-related volumes. |
